Swimming on the Oriente in 1939
The aft sun deck on the Oriente of 1930 was replaced with a tiled swimming pool in 1939, a first for Ward Line ships. Until then, Orizaba (II), Siboney, and Morro Castle (II) passengers were cooled by simple deckside "sea spray" showers, while passengers on the Monterey and Mexico of 1933 enjoyed makeshift canvas swimming pools.
